Digital Compositing

Digital Compositing is overlapping one piece of pre-recorded / pre-rendered footage onto another piece of footage with camera tracking as forming it as one.

Rotoscoping

Rotoscoping is the process of cutting someone / something  out of a video with a grueling frame-by-frame pen tool trace.

Keying

Keying is used to make a select area / person / object transparent. This is chosen based on colour, lighting and also a mask.

2D / 3D Tracking

This type of tracking (3D) tracks backgrounds and has depth and 2D automatically tracks up /down and left / right movement.

Colour Correction

CC is used to make CG elements look more believable. CC modifies the colours found in footage to achieve a more believable effect with the GG

Motion Graphics

Graphics that are applied onto prerecorded footage.

ADAM (Short film made in UE4, behind the scenes) Analysis

  • Face Tracking / Motion Capture – The capture of actors and tracking their movements. Actors use mocap suits that are synced to the skeleton of the model.  A similar process is used to track facial movements.
  • Photogrammetry – The recreation of  real-life video / photography as a 3D asset (textures included)
  • Retopologize – Converts an image into millions of polygons. The aforementioned polys would need to be baked onto a 3D model at a lower resolution)
